Excel formatting

In all versions prior to 1.4.0, the Excel output can be characterized as follows:

  • .XLS workbooks are generated. XLS is the "older" style file format
  • All columns and values are treated as text/labels. This would have the unfortunate side effect of painting little green arrows in the corners of cells and having Excel show a warning along the lines of "Number stored as text"

As of Drillbridge 1.4.0, the Excel output feature has been revamped. Instead of generating XLS files, the more modern .XLSX file format is generated. Additionally, the creation of cells and their formatting is significantly enhanced. In particular, Drillbridge will attempt to inspect the table of data returned from your relational database in order to determine how it should format the columns in the workbook.
